Treatment of diabetes

Diabetes mellitus (diabetes) is  caused by agents ( genetic factors, immune disorders, microbial infections and toxins, free radical toxins, psychological factors, etc.  ) acting on the body which result in islet dysfunction and insulin resistance (Insulin Resistance, IR), etc. and then further causes sugar, protein, fat, water and electrolyte metabolism disorder syndrome series,
The most typical symptoms of diabetes or high blood glucose include frequent urination, frequent thirst, and frequent hunger or eating.

In ancient China, the word "diabetes" did not exist. However, an early definition of the illness can be found in the medical classicHuang Di Nei Jing written around approx. 200 BC. Diabetes is currently categorized into 2 sub-type: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is much more common than type 1 diabetes. For example, there are approximately 16 million people afflicted with diabetes in the U.S, with approximately  95% of the patients having type 2 disease.
Type 2 diabetes are more common in the elderly, their insulin secretion is not low, actually it is even higher.  Their body is not sensitive enough to insulin (Insulin Resistance, IR). Insulin is secreted by beta-cell , which is  the only hypoglycemic hormone in the body. Insulin resistance refers to the tissues around the body less sensitive to insulin, peripheral tissue such as muscle, fat resist  insulin for glucose absorption, transformation, Clinical observation show up to 90% patients has insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes can lead to infection, heart attack, cerebral vascular disease, kidney failure, blindness, lower limb gangrene, etc., as the main reason for the death and disability.

Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of end stage kidney disease (ESRD) in the U.S.
Diabetic neuropathy is the most common cause of non-traumatic amputations in the U.S.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis, the disease can be divided into different types of disharmony patterns:
- Yin Deficiency and Excessive Heat Type
- Deficiency of Qi and Yin Type
- Blood Stasis and Internal Obstructed Type
- Deficiency of Yin and YangType
